Calling all bookworms. Each month, Spike Island Café invites a debut novelist to showcase their work. This May, novelist Andrew Hurley will read from his award-winning debut book The Loney – for which he’s already bagged himself the prize of 2015 Costa First Novel Book Award.
No spoilers here, but the scene is set on England’s north-west coast. The tale of The Loney sucks you in like the tide, and you’ll feel as though you’re making your way through a thick fog, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. Intrigued? The plot will keep you guessing, that’s for sure.
Topics of discussion with Andrew Hurley himself will include theme, structure, inspiration, and the craft of writing. Whether you’re already a fan of the book, or you have no prior knowledge whatsoever, you’re most welcome to come along. If you want to familiarise yourself before hand, extracts are available to view before you arrive.
This is the perfect way to discover and meet new writing talent and brilliant books. If that’s your kind of thing, these events at Spike Island Café will be right up your street.
