Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Chekhov and subversive geniuses of the late nineteenth to early twentieth century arrive at National Portrait Gallery for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to behold the faces our understanding of morality and the arts is indebted to.

Masterpieces on loan from the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow exhibit the great writers, artists, composer and patrons who incubated a cultural genius which would transcend the laws of gravity and echo long into the future.
