Arnolfini and Bristol Museum collaborate on Art From Elsewhere, an exhibition that shows Bristol steadily gaining traction on the UK art scene.

Curated by David Elliot, former director of major museums in Stockholm, Tokyo and Istanbul, Art From Elsewhere brings together cutting edge work from artists across the globe. Featuring a diverse range of artistic mediums – including sculpture, installation, photography and video – the exhibition brings together stories and experiences sometimes unique to, and sometimes shared by, communities, countries and continents the world over.

With the help of five £1 million awards from Art Fund International, a group of UK galleries and museums has collected the works of contemporary artists from Africa, Asia and the Far East. The culmination of their collective efforts is an exhibition that gives an insight – as much as it can do in the cushy surroundings of the Bristol Museum – into life in conflict zones and oppressive government regimes, as well as exploring more universal themes such as the advent of capitalism.

Bristol will be the last stop on Art From Elsewhere’s 2-year UK tour, so make sure you catch it while you can.
