1:54 is, undeniably, the most successful international art fair dedicated to contemporary African art. Following May’s second New York edition, 1:54 returns to London for its fourth iteration at Somerset House this month.

Referencing the 54 countries that make up the 1 continent of Africa, 1:54 will see 40 specialist galleries (including London’s Tiwani Contemorary) exhibit over 130 artists from Africa and its diaspora throughout the East, West and South wings of Somerset House.

1:54, however, is about much more than just contemporary art. FORUM, its three-day public programme will probe and question the links that hold contemporary art, photography, fashion and object design, architecture and urbanism together. Or not, as the case may be. Curated by Koyo Kouoh, a mainstay of 1:54’s winning formula (and Artistic Director of RAW Material Company), FORUM looks set to be as exciting and vibrant as ever, not only drawing on the successes of past fairs but also 1:54’s return to London. Thursday’s opening lecture from ex-ICA Director Ekow Eshun is one not to be missed.

If you want to better understand how the world’s cultural fabric is weaved, then put these dates in your diary.

1:54 is located at Somerset House, London, WC2R 1LA, 6-9 October 2016.

For more information, see the 1:54 website.
