An Evening with Irvine Welsh at the Sallis Benney Theatre, Brighton

Brighton’s Sallis Benney Theatre plays host this Friday to An Evening With Irvine Welsh. Welsh comes to Brighton as part of an eight-stop book launch around the UK, introducing The Blade Artist, his latest – and darkest – novel yet.

And it’s not just Irvine Welsh who is making a comeback – if indeed anyone can ‘come back’ from his level of cult status. It’s also Begbie – the psychopath who frowned upon the junkies of Trainspotting; preferring his own unique mix of alcohol, amphetamines and extreme violence.

Forever immortalised by Robert Carlyle in Danny Boyle’s movie version of TrainspottingThe Blade Artist finds Francis Begbie a reformed man – a happily married sculptor now living in California. Somewhat unsurprisingly for a Welsh novel however, his peace is not meant to last; and when Begbie learns of the murder of his son back in Scotland, things take a turn for the worse on both sides of the Atlantic…

An Evening with Irvine Welsh takes place at the Sallis Benney Theatre on Friday 8th April at 7.30pm, where Welsh will be joined by local writer Simon Toyne. Tickets are £13.50 – for more information or to book, click here.
