It’s another big month at Brighton’s Phoenix Gallery, with the launch on Friday of their May exhibition, ‘Press and Release: Technology and the Evolution of the Artist’s Book’. The exhibition features boundary-breaking works from artists around the world, embodying a fresh and experimental approach to ‘the artist’s book’ as an art form all of its own.
For curator Maddy Rosenberg, this means looking back to the earliest examples of text and image – to cave paintings, Chinese scrolls, Egyptian temples and Mayan codex – and questioning what methods of printing and illustration might be re-imagined for today. As the director of Central Booking in New York, Maddy’s vision is to create a multi-disciplinary space focusing on the integration of the artist’s book into the larger art world, through attention to both art and science.
‘Press and Release: Technology and the Evolution of the Artist’s Book’ launches at Brighton’s Phoenix Gallery with a Private View on Friday 29th April 6pm – 8pm. The exhibition is open to the public until 12th June, with opening hours of 11am – 5pm, Wed – Sun. For more information on the exhibition and special events, click here.
