Check out Beyond Elsewhere at the Undependence Film Festival – Edinburgh’s only pop up film festival.

Undependence Film Festival is Scotland’s festival celebrating Undependence – being dependent and influenced by other cultures. It complements screening with talks, artistic shows and workshops about film and culture – but of course the films are the most important.

Beyond Elsewhere is a documentary film that explores different manners of living – from communes to remote dwellings. Influenced by their parents’ hippie ideals, the filmmakers look at three ways to live. First, they look at a farm collective in West Styria where the inhabitants grow their own produce and explore their own individual and communal boundaries.

Second, a shaman who lives in south west Portugal tells her story. After finding city living too claustrophobic, she packed up and hit the road where she lives peacefully with her USB stick that provides Internet to her MacBook.

Thirdly, a former architect who focuses on urban planning fells a tree in a forest in France. He lives there alone in a wooden hut and believes himself to be the first of many to go on this path.
