Midnight and Magnolias, the play about the production of the hugely successful film Gone With the Wind, is playing at Leith Theatre.

The iconic film featuring Vivien Leigh and Clarke Gable was adapted from Margaret Mitchell’s novel about the antebellum South. A few weeks into filming, producer David O. Selznick realises his script is awful and so everything goes into overdrive to write a new and better script in a few short days. He fires the director and hires Victor Fleming who ha just wowed audiences with The Wizard of Oz. He gets a famous script doctor in but it becomes apparent that he hasn’t actually read the book. And it’s not exactly a book you can read in an hour or two! Hijinks and madcap antics occur as Selznick runs round trying to get the film made. And what a film it was!

Studio 1, Festival Theatre, 13-29 Nicolson Street, EH8 9FT, £11, 7.30pm, 4-7th May, click here for more information.
